STUDIES OF TERRITORIAL HERITAGE SYSTEMS
Bastioned fortifications on the border between Castilla and Portugal
The bastioned fortifications on the border with Portugal in Castilla y Léon constitute a Territorial Heritage Systems to characterize according to the criteria developed initially in the Strategic Plan of the Castilla y León fortifications. But the characterization of the system THS from Castilla y León should be consistent and compatible with the local system's own characterization of the Spanish-Portuguese border between Galicia and the Tajo river, also compatible with the characterization of the global system of frontier fortifications. Therefore the study included the historical, geographical, technological and typological analysis characteristic of this methodology, and a comparative study of the elements and subsystems for the entirety of the Portuguese fortification of La Raya. It also includes proposals for action to reinforce this idea of grouping.
