PONFERRADA CASTLE CONSOLIDATION WORK

The work promoted from the agreement composed by the Ministry of Culture, Junta de Castilla y Leon, Diputación Provincial de León and Ponferrada City Council, is focused on the excavation and debris from inside the fortress (terraced to use it as a football field in 1922), and to consolidate the walls around their perimeter, recovering the path of the rounds in which all towers and buildings of this immense castle are engaged. The excavation, the flooring of the rounds and the opening of the water outlets, allowed to stabilize walls that had fallen down several times since the nineteenth century.
